Summer 2022 CASM Update
It has been a couple months since we have updated the CASM stakeholders but we have been very busy. A few highlights of recent and upcoming activities:
All 2022 flights, reports and forecast data have been produced
The CASM Program Plan Report is completed
We have upcoming 2022 Engagement Activities
The next stakeholder meeting is 7/13 at 1PM MST, so please let us know if you have not yet been invited to that.
2022 Flights and Data
The Colorado Airborne Snow Measurement (CASM) program has completed all ASO flights for the 2022 measurement season. This included multiple complete snow surveys across several key headwaters in Colorado:
East and Taylor Rivers
Blue River above Dillon Reservoir
Windy Gap Reservoir and the Fraser River
Conejos River
Dolores River above McPhee Reservoir
Detailed reports on snow depth, snowpack water content, albedo and other detail can all be downloaded for free from ASO, Inc’s website. Here is a map of all snow surveys conducted in 2022.
CASM Report and Executive Summary Document
The CASM workgroup has completed the 2020 planning project and the final report is available for download. We have also created a simplified Executive Summary document that lays out the basic value proposition of the CASM program and includes a program FAQ.
Upcoming 2022 Activities
There are several upcoming activities as part of the 2022 water plan grant including:
Multiple snow free lidar flights to prep a large headwater area for future snow surveys
A forecast retrospective that summarizes flow data, official and experimental forecasts.
A survey and follow-up sessions on how to use ASO data for decision-support improvement
Thank you for reading and staying engaged in the CASM program. If you have any questions for the project team or would like to be more involved in the CASM planning team, please contact Page Weil or Taylor Winchell.
