4/18/2022 CASM Update
The Colorado Airborne Snow Measurement (CASM) program has kicked off for 2022!
Read below for information on recent and upcoming ASO flights in Colorado as well as other CASM news.
Recent Flights
ASO Flights have been conducted in two basins and data is currently being processed. The results of this snowpack measurement will be posted on the ASO, Inc. Data Portal once processing is complete (typically 72 hours after the flight is conducted): LINK
These results have been used to inform an experimental streamflow forecast using NCAR’s WRF-Hydro platform. Additionally, CBRFC is releasing an experimental, unofficial forecast that will integrate ASO data using direct insertion into their runoff models. Links for results from both products will be shared here once they are developed.

Other Updates
The report from the 2021 WSRF grant is nearly completed and is undergoing final review. It will be shared with the CWCB and publicly with the CASM stakeholder group when it is completed.
In the months to come, there are several planned engagement activities to improve understanding on the part of CASM stakeholders in how to make ASO data useful to users of all scales (reservoir operators, NGOs, municipalities, others).
As always, if you have questions please reach out to the project team.
